Nonsense

Posted by FairSquare - February 2nd, 2012

I have a thing for nonsense.
And not the nonsense where you spout out a word like UNION and think it's funny, but the kind of nonsense that makes you wonder if the nonsense is really that nonsensical.
Maybe nonsense is not the right word for it. Actually, i'm pretty sure it isn't.
Because what i'm thinking of is analyzing things that no one ever thought to analyze or things that are so insignificant that no one stops to think about it. Finding humour in those things.
I only know one person who can do that really well. He's a dutch comedian and i went to one of his shows. He's brilliant.

Maybe i'll give it a shot myself one day. You know, being a comedian. Going to an open mic night in some theater and see how i do. Because i know i can be funny and have a huge imagination.
I'll probably fail though. But i want to try.

So, yeah. Hi!
How are you?

Who's the dutch comedian?

Ronald Goedemondt. That's his name.

I'm lost. I get what you mean though. I hate when people attempt to be random.

Well, certain types of random can be funny. I'm a bit random myself, but that's because odd thoughts enter my head and i tell them to people. Not because i try to be random by saying a word that is out of context.

Hey I was just going through old comments and realized you gave me some advice way back I sort of took recently.

I did? Link? :p
Or just tell me what advice i gave and what you did with it.. i'm kinda curious now.

It was on my account jamiek. http://jamiek.newgrounds.com/news/pos t/532175 .lol It was all the way back in 2010 but I haven't been online much last year. Yea it wasn't much but you were right.

Ah, i see. Well, i'm just glad i could help you. And that you remember this after such a long time.. that's pretty cool.

sounds like observational humor?

we've had some pretty intense round-table, stream of consciousness, shit-talking sessions under the influence of LSD. a lot of brilliant comedians were massive trippers. the funniest (and nicest) people i know also have a bit of a history.

(not advocating btw, just an observation i've made. i guess my point is that good comedy comes from an open/expanded mind. how you achieve that is your own business!)

i think you might like Mitch Hedberg:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-zFQ9 fOTSU&feature=related

Oh man, i typed out a pretty long response, but for some reason FireFox froze and now i'll have to type everything again.

Anyway.. people who have a history tend to have a better perspective on life. Experiencing things makes that you know what's important. Not that you have to have a history to have a good perspective on life, but it helps.. i think.

And yes, it's observational humour. Sort of. Although i don't like the style that Mitch Hedberg uses, just spouting one-liners. I think that is, because i'm more used to the Dutch style of stand-up which isn't really stand-up :p
It's more of a mixture of (stand-up) comedy, theatre, and music and often includes social themes and political satire. It has a bit more substance than just one-liners.
As you can see in this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd hFvWqdkv8 (although you can't understand what he's saying, because it's Dutch) the first chuckle from the audience is at 01:20.
It's much slower paced, but i think it's really captivating when executed right.

''i guess my point is that good comedy comes from an open/expanded mind''
Definitely agree with you there!

At first i wasn't a fan of Mitch Hedberg, one-liners have always seemed a bit lowbrow to me.

But over time I've found his act to be really endearing. I like his delivery, and that he doesn't rely on offensive or aggressive humor. I appreciate anti-comedy, and i think his strings of one-liners are a wicked example of this :)

Not relying on offensive or aggressive humour is a plus indeed. That's one of the reasons why i like Ronald Goedemondt and a bunch of other comedians; they can be funny on their own without bashing someone/something else.
And.. are one-liners really anti-comedy? I mean, one-liners are meant to be funny, right? Or are anti-humour and anti-comedy different things?
